Customers frequently ask for one thing when the problem is something else. You need to have empathy for customers, too, and understand what they’re really saying as opposed to what’s on the surface. But you need to understand the technology enough to have a technical conversation, and translate it into layman’s terms for business folks-who might be stakeholders, but not as technically adept.
